Students of the social sciences at the University of Denver explore the ways in which human beings think and interact, as individuals and as members of groups. The social sciences attempt to explain and describe social phenomena as varied as juvenile delinquency and the actions of national states in world politics. Academic interests and career goals mesh easily in the social sciences, with students frequently applying their classroom instruction in the wide variety of internship opportunities that our programs offer. 

The departments in Social Sciences at the University of Denver include Anthropology, Economics, Human Communication Studies, Mass Communications and Journalism Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy, and Sociology and Criminology. Many different majors are available to pursue within these departments, and others to which Social Sciences faculty contribute are listed on the interdisciplinary programs tab. 

The faculty in the social sciences are some of the most prolific scholars at the University. Some the division's programs are very highly ranked nationally, in terms of quality of teaching and research. DU faculty in the social sciences have received fellowships from many different organizations, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Social Science Research Council, and the Fulbright Commission.
