Core Assessment for Instructors

Beginning in the Fall Quarter of 2007 all Core instructors are asked to participate in a new method of assessing the Core Curriculum.  Over the 2006-07 academic year, a Core assessment instrument was developed by the Faculty Core Committee, incorporated into the proposals process, and is now available for your use in assessing your students’ performance.  Input was also received from the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. The Core assessment form is specific to the Core and reflects the unique nature of the curriculum.

The Assessment Instrument

There is one form (available below) that instructors will use.  Each instructor will choose from assignments identified in their original course proposal (or another, if upon reflection it is more appropriate) and fill out the form accordingly.

Please use the following checklist to complete the assessment instrument:

1:  You will need to obtain an Assessment Form (available below).

2: Once the form has opened on your computer you must save it to your hard drive in order to fill out the form.  Go to your File menu and click "save as".  This will save it as a Word document.

3: The form itself is self explanatory and contains specific instructions where necessary.

4: When you are ready to complete the assessment exercise you will type your responses directly on the form and e-mail to the Core Office (jerry.schwenke@du.edu.)

5: Assessment forms will be due two weeks after classes end.
