Program Requirements
The Asian Studies Program offers both an undergraduate major and minor.
Asian Studies Major (60 credits)
HISTORY: Choose 2 (8 credits)
- Warring States and Middle Kingdoms
- Contemporary Japan
- Modern Japan
RELIGIOUS STUDIES: Choose 1 (4 credits)
- Religions of China & Japan
- Religions of Tibet
- Hinduism Through Texts
- Modern Hinduism
- Buddhism
LANGUAGE (24 credits)
- 2nd and 3rd year Chinese or Japanese
Note: 1st year language study may NOT be counted for credit toward the major.
SENIOR THESIS SEQUENCE (8 credits)
- ASIA 3901 Asian Studies Directed Readings
- ASIA 3902 Asian Studies Senior Thesis
ELECTIVES (16 credits)
Elective courses not on the approved list must be approved in advanced by the Program Director.
DECLARE THE MAJOR
Please make an appointment with Dr. Ginni Ishimatsu, Asian Studies Program Director (303-871-2152). She will help you to sign up as a major, and guide you to an Asian Studies faculty adviser who can give you advice about the best courses to take according to your main interests. You will need to meet each quarter with the program director for approval of courses taken for the major.
