FacultyDwight Smith
Background:Dwight Smith is a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Public Policy Studies and Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Denver, having served as its fifteenth Chancellor from 1984-1989. During this period, he oversaw an academic and administrative restructuring of the University as well as its recovery from budget deficit and enrollment downturn. Dr. Smith also is Research Professor and Professor of Chemistry Emeritus in the Universitys Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Internationally recognized for his research in physical and analytical chemistry, he is the author of numerous scientific publications and the recipient of research awards and grants. Dr. Smith earned the Ph.D. from Penn State University, held fellowships at Caltech and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and was a faculty member at Wesleyan University and Hope College before joining the University in 1972. He also served as President of Hawaii Loa College and member of its Board of Trustees from 1990-1992 while on leave from DU. Dr. Smith will be studying and writing about contemporary issues in higher education and science. |
