Faculty![]() Jerry Wartgow
Background:Jerry Wartgow is a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Public Policy Studies and is currently serving as Interim Dean of the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver. He served as Superintendent of Denver Public Schools, a position from which he retired in 2005. Jerry is also President Emeritus of the Colorado Community College System, where he served as president from 1986-1998. He has also served as Executive Director of the Auraria Higher Education Center in Denver, Deputy Executive Director of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, and as Dean of Students of the International School of Bangkok in Thailand. Dr. Wartgow earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Denver, a Masters Degree at the University of Hawaii, and a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He is the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Public Service Degree from the University of Denver. Upon his retirement from DPS he was invited to a residency at the Rockefeller Foundation study center in Bellagio, Italy, where he worked on his recently released book, Why School Reform is Failing And What We Need To Do About It: 10 Lessons From The Trenches (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008) |
