Communication in Action

Together, we form a community that emphasizes cultural and historical perspectives and critical race theory in our studies of journalism, strategic communication, film and the digital industries. Through experiential learning, research and creative expression, we're committed to developing media and communication leadership that serve the public good.

Undergraduate Programs

We prepare you for exciting and competitive media careers by offering four majors — film studies and production, journalism studies, media studies or strategic communication (public relations) — and a minor in media, film and journalism studies.

An Immersive Media Education

A combination of theory and practical learning puts students in the center of the conversation around today's media landscape, challenging you to develop your skills while exploring the systems that connect us across boundaries and borders. Through internships, travel abroad and experiential learning environments, our students engage with real-world issues of public communication, global mass media and new media technologies. We recognize that communication practices and processes can influence our societies in both positive and negative ways. Through our commitments to community engagement and diversity, we prioritize building relationships of mutuality that allow students and local community organizations to learn from one another so as to address community-defined communication challenges together.

When considering my graduate program, I wanted a skill set that I could apply across industries and could grow with me throughout my career. I ultimately decided to enroll at the University of Denver because of its thoughtful approach to instill a strategic approach to communications, small program size and commitment to public service.
