Once you've met our MA program admission requirements and have been accepted into our program, you must complete:

1. 45-quarter hours of philosophy credits and an additional 45 in your other master's program. *You may propose to reduce this amount by a maximum of 10-quarter hours under appropriate circumstances, as specified by the Office of Graduate Studies' policies and procedures (PDF).
2. a comprehensive exam covering the history of Western philosophy, and a portfolio paper approved by a committee of three department faculty members.
3. an oral defense covering both the comprehensive exam on the history of philosophy and the portfolio paper.
4. requirements beyond the coursework within the dual MA in religious studies (or other approved area).
