I am an associate professor in the History Department, where I teach European history from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century. I arrived at DU in 1997 after receiving my Ph.D. from Brown University. I am a specialist in early modern British history, with a particular interest in cultural and gender history. My book, Women of Quality: Accepting and Contesting Ideals of Femininity in England, 1690-1760, came out in 2002. I am currently working on a history of pets and pet keeping in the eighteenth century.
