There are three choirs at the University of Denver: The Lamont Chorale, the Lamont Women's Chorus, and the Lamont Men's Choir. Each of these choirs performs a wide variety of repertoire from the Renaissance to the present. The choirs sing a cappella and with instruments and in many languages and styles. Most concerts are performed in DU's beautiful Gates Concert Hall in the Newman Center.
The Lamont Chorale is conducted by Dr. Catherine Sailer and is a select mixed choir that is committed to the highest level of artistic excellence. The Chorale is primarily music majors, but some non-music majors are also included. Rehearsals are Mondays from 4-5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:50 pm.
The Lamont Women's Chorus, also conducted by Dr. Sailer, specializes in the diverse repertoire for treble voices. The Women's Chorus has singers from the entire DU community, music and non-music majors alike. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:50 p.m.
The Lamont Men's Choir, conducted by Kyle Fleming, performs the spirited repertoire for male voices, and also includes singers from the DU community. Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6:30 p.m.
Everyone is encouraged to audition for these choirs. Auditions are held the first week of fall classes in room 411 in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts. The audition includes a solo song in any style, vocalizing, and assessment of aural and sight reading skills. The solo song is optional and is the singer's choice. Credits earned through participation in a choir may be applied to the creative expression core requirement. For further information, contact Catherine Sailer at email@example.com.
