The Lamont Guitar Chamber Ensembles are led by experienced chamber music player Jonathan Leathwood. The guitar ensemble concerts, held at the end of each quarter in Hamilton Recital Hall, are among Lamont's most popular events.
Strong ensemble skills are essential to today's professional guitarist. Our guitar majors participate in at least two ensembles every quarter, and each ensemble receives a weekly individual coaching — a level of attention rarely encountered in other guitar programs. Ensembles vary in size from duos to octets: on occasion, groups even perform under a conductor. We especially emphasize collaboration with singers and other instrumentalists. The course covers music from the Renaissance to the present day, and students have the opportunity to research repertoire and to perform their own compositions and arrangements.
