In this ensemble, students practice the ornate and highly refined forms of North Indian classical music and dance – Hindustani music and Kathak dance.
The arts of India are distinguished by their close interrelationship – rhythm, melody and movement are all encompassed by the term sangīt. DU's North Indian Classical Ensemble is dedicated to the practice of all three of these arts. Depending on student interest in a particular quarter, the group focuses on vocal music, instrumental music, or Kathak dance. All of these areas of study are supplimented by exercises in rhythmic recitation.
The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-12:50pm. This ensemble can be taken for multiple quarters.
