Biography:

Kate Redmond landed at Lamont School Music in the midst of a storied, peripatetic career in live music event production. After attending Berklee College of Music, she graduated from Massachusetts College of Art, in the Studio for Interrelated Media with a focus on production. She immediately moved to Minneapolis and joined the International Alliance for Theatrical and Stage Employees, which introduced her to the world of large scale, arena shows, from the backstage perspective. After five Minnesota winters, she was ready to hit the road. Kate's first tour was 11 months, with Sesame Street Live, for which she did sound, rigging, lighting, and truck loading in arenas across the U.S. This led to a series of contracts aboard cruise ships world-wide, mixing sound for production shows, cabaret acts, and jazz orchestras. She feels privileged to have visited over 60 countries and sailed to very remote areas where tourists ought not go. In the last two of the seven years at sea, Kate spent hurricane season (which conveniently coincides with awards season) in Los Angeles working for Merv Griffin Productions. She produced movie premier parties, industry simulcasts, Oscar parties, and the press area for the Grammys in 1999 and 2000, the latter being the inaugural event for the Staples Center.

But the mountains of her home state of Colorado called, and in 2001, Kate moved to Boulder to work on the audio crew of the Boulder Theater.  She was there for three years, finally unpacking boxes she'd not seen for a decade. While maintaining a home base in Boulder she then toured with two marvelous European bands ? Fiamma Fumana, from Emilia Romania, and Frigg, from Kaustinen, Finland, and also the Wyoming leg for BB King's national tour, amongst many other gigs too numerous to mention.

Kate has been at Lamont for three years, and in her copious spare time enjoys gardening, home improvement, yoga, writing poetry, and skiing.
