Background:

DA and MM degrees, University of Northern Colorado where he studied conducting with Dr. David Mackenzie and trombone with Buddy Baker.
BM degree, California State University at Northridge where he studied conducting with Gary Pratt and Dr. David Whitwell, and trombone with Loren Marsteller and William Booth.

Biography:

Dr. Joseph Martin is the Director of the Lamont Wind Ensemble and coordinates the Wind Chamber Program at the Lamont School of Music. Dr. Martin is active conducting in the Rocky Mountain region, appearing frequently as guest clinician and conductor for local honor bands, festivals and competitions. He has appeared as guest conductor of the Denver Concert Band and Denver Municipal Band.

Dr. Martin also serves as Chair of the Brass and Percussion Department at the Lamont School of Music where he is professor of trombone, bass trombone, and euphonium. He performs as a member of the Denver Brass as principal trombonist/ euphonium and has appeared on numerous CDs with this organization on the Klavier recording label. Additionally, Dr. Martin appears on CD recordings with the High Altitude Trombone and the Aries Brass Quintet. As a member of Aries, he has toured across the United States, and internationally to Europe, Central and South America, and recently to Japan. As a freelance player, Dr. Martin performs with the Colorado Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, Colorado Ballet Orchestra, Opera Colorado, Central City Opera, and the Cheyenne Symphony.
