In July 2008, Trumpeter Justin Bartels began his tenure as principal trumpet with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Over the last 5 seasons Justin has made the city of Denver his home. In 2012, Justin was appointed to the newly created Lecturer of Trumpet Position at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he helps with the University of Colorado trumpet studio and is a member of the faculty brass quintet. Since 2009, Justin has been the applied trumpet instructor at Regis University in Denver and also served as an adjunct sabbatical replacement instructor at the University of Denver in the Fall of 2012. In 2011, Justin, along with fellow colleagues in the Colorado Symphony and friends around the area formed a brass sextet called the Bartels Brass.
Prior to his tenure with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Justin held the Principal Trumpet Positions with the Columbus Symphony (2007-2008), Central City Opera Orchestra (2006,2007,2009-2012), Augusta Symphony (2006-2007) and was also a Trumpet fellow with the New World Symphony (2003-2006).
Justin has also had the pleasure of performing with the Alabama Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Houston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Virginia Symphony.
Justin is a former student of Marie Speziale, and holds a bachelors degree in Music Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Justin also attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the University of Alabama.
Justin’s wife Myroslava is also a member of the Colorado Symphony. They both enjoy skiing, spending time with their daughter and the National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide football Program.
