Master of Arts in Music Theory
Candidates for the Music Theory degree may elect to study counterpoint, Schenkerian analysis, theory pedagogy, set theory, serialism, contour theory, neo-Riemannian techniques, chaos, new approaches to rhythm and texture, or model composition in the styles of composers from the 12th century to the present. Theorists also benefit from courses offered by the Musicology Department, a number of which are composer-based. The thesis is written under close supervision by a faculty mentor.
