In the University Program, students can explore broadly within music and other areas of study. At the same time, students have much latitude as to where they wish to invest their sharpest and deepest of their intellectual inquiries and creative endeavors.
In the BA program, approximately 1/3 of your courses will be involved with music, while 2/3 of your courses will be in a variety of areas in the liberal arts. Additional opportunities for study and a potential double major in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences are especially rich. The University Program also boasts 3+2 programs that allow students to complete both the BA in music and a Masters degree, within 5 years. For 3+2, Lamont partners with the schools of Education (BA/MA) and Business (BA/MBA).
The BA still contains an applied component and thus a portfolio submission is required. The high ratio of composition majors at Lamont (currently 300 to 10) gives composers almost limitless possibilities for the performance of their music. For students in digital audio, a new studio opened in 2004. There is also a state-of-the-art recording studio wired to every performance and rehearsal space in the school. Composition students graduate with a diverse portfolio of digitally recorded works.
