Lamont School of Music

Bachelor of Arts in Music -- Percussion

In the University Program, students can explore music and other areas of study. At the same time, students have much latitude as to where they wish to invest the sharpest and deepest of their intellectual inquiries and creative endeavors.

In the Bachelor of Arts program, approximately 1/3 of your courses will be involved with music, while 2/3 of your courses will be in the liberal arts. Additional undergraduate opportunities for study and a potential double major in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences are especially rich. The University Program also boasts 3+2 programs that allow students to complete both the BA in music and a master's degree, within 5 years. For 3+2, Lamont partners with the Colleges of Education (BA/MA) and Business (BA/MBA).

The BA still contains a performance component and thus an audition is required.  You can choose classical or jazz percussion. As a percussion student, you have the opportunity to study with the principal Percussionist of Colorado Symphony Orchestra, John Kinzie. You will also perform under the baton of Maestros Lawrence Golan and Joseph Martin in the spectacular Gates Concert Hall. As a Jazz Percussion student, you will have the opportunity to study with one of the best in the field, Mike Marlier. Because studios are kept small, all music majors at Lamont study with faculty, and enjoy a wealth of performance time.
