Italian at DU

Verona, Italy

The Italian program at The University of Denver develops our students' Italian language proficiency across the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), as well as a literary and cultural awareness in the Italian context.

Students engage in the spoken and written forms of Italian communication via direct interaction on-site with native speakers (study-abroad) and with authentic materials in the classroom and on the Web.

At DU, the Italian experience extends beyond the classroom. Students attend plays, movies and the opera. In addition, we facilitate opportunities for student civic engagement in Italian communities, by providing opportunities for community service learning projects and internships.

Students also enjoy weekly casual Italian conversation hours with instructors, returned study abroad students and Italian exchange students studying at DU.

With their study of Italian language, culture, literature and film, students gain the necessary skills to pursue graduate school in Italian Studies, pursue professional goals in the world of business/commerce, international relations and education, and to live/work abroad.
