Master of Arts in Digital Media Studies

Digital Media Studies draws graduate students from a number of disciplines and backgrounds, including art and design, English literature, mass communications, journalism, music, computer science, and education. We seek smart, creative students who have a solid track record of independent thinking, with an ability to foster general connections across the liberal arts, humanities, and social sciences.

We value students ready to immerse themselves in the growing field of digital media scholarship. We look for those graduate students eager to join us in the production of compelling and reflective digital works and experiences. These may take the form of critical and creative publications, networked discussions, conference and festival participation, performance, videos and films, audio works, games, interactive media, locative media projects, net.art, and more.

DMS is about the interplay of critical and technical research, hands-on production in a variety of interconnected media, and creative expression. You should be eager to produce a good deal of new work using digital technologies. But we do not require technical skills to be admitted, but expect that students will work to acquire them during their course of study. We don't expect everyone to have the same skill set or topical interests. We prefer to see where you are at and, more importantly, where you see yourself going, and begin our dialogue from there.
