Interests:

Research interest areas include: transnationalism, migration, and new media; cultural practices of a developing global middle class; convergence of online and offline community; and relationships between media and government channels around the reporting of issues that affect foreign policy. I am currently working on a book about how migrating professionals use new media to create local territory in global cities. As part of this project, I have conducted ethnographic research of online and offline digital media practices by expatriates in Paris, Madrid, and Singapore during the past four years. An article on class and identity issues tied to these practices has recently been published in the ICA Journal, Communication, Culture & Critique.
