Background
In late August, Media, Film & Journalism Studies graduate student Laura Baker was involved in a serious bike accident while riding in the Venus de Miles ride in Longmont, CO. Laura suffered a traumatic brain injury and many broken bones. She remained in the intensive care unit in Longmont United Hospital for three and a half weeks before being transferred to Craig Rehabilitation Hospital in Englewood. Laura is expected to be discharged in a few weeks and will continue her outpatient rehabilitation at home.
She continues to get better every day, but as with all brain injuries, it will be a long ride to recovery (not-so-coincidentally also the name of the fundraiser). The students planning the event hope to raise enough money to cover the medical deductible for this year and next--approximately $25,000 to $28,000. The students have already raised quite a bit but have a long way to go.
