Ginette Ishimatsu
Background:
Ph.D South Asian Studies, University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Ishimatsu is Associate Professor of Hindu studies. She is the Director of the Asian Studies program, which she helped found. In addition, she currently serves as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies with the division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (AHSS). Professor Ishimatsu teaches Hinduism Through Texts, Modern Hinduism, Religions of China and Japan, and Death and Dying in Hindu Traditions. Her research focuses on the politics of Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu; religion and the state in India, and the history of Shaiva Siddhanta. Her most recent publication is the annotated bibliography on Shaiva Siddhanta, included in Oxford Bibliographies Online (2011). Dr. Ishimatsu serves on the Steering Committee of the Religion in South Asia section of the American Academy of Religion (AAR). |
