Culture and communication are fundamental to the understanding of ongoing global-to-local transformations in the world today. The increasing traffic between and among cultures, nations and populations demands that students pay attention to the importance of culture and communication.
Examples range from the global impact of Hollywood films on local cultures, to intercultural conflict in locales such as Bosnia and Iraq, and struggles for cultural identification among new immigrants in many countries. Students study both the concepts and practical tools used to communicate within and across cultures.
This module combines perspectives from traditional media and new communication technologies, as well as from personal, group, organizational, institutional and public communication to provide an integrated approach to address communication and culture.
