Honors and Awards

  • The Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) initiation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 12th, at 5pm in Sturm Hall 281 (reception to follow in Sturm Hall 286).  Alpha Kappa Delta is the International Sociology Honor Society.  It is a non-secret, democratic society of scholars dedicated to the investigation of humanity for the purpose of service.  The Society seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement of the human condition.  The following students have accepted membership into the society this year:  Britni Adams, Charla Agnoletti, Hilary Barnard, Jessica Barnhill, Candace Branson, Lisa Duchen, Adelaide Friberg Christensen, Janice Friddle, Georgia Gerard, Kevin Greenhill, Brooke Lamphere, Katherine Manart, Kevin Poyner, Sara Rappaport, Sheila Ruminski, Nora Scanlon, Amanda Showers, Lauren Varner, and Mallory Voelker.

  • 2009 Departmental award winners:
    William H. Key Award for Outstanding Work in Applied Sociology -- Jazmin Muro and Sara Rappaport
    Wilbert E. Moore Award for Outstanding Scholarship -- Rachel Deaton
    OMNI Award for Sociological Contribution in the Area of Public Policy -- Michelle Molinar-Dominguez 

    The Key, Moore and OMNI Awards will be presented at DU's Pioneer Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 14th, in the Driscoll University Center Governor's Ballroom (5pm).
