What is the Special Status Student Program?
Non-DU students seeking coursework for personal interest, professional growth or transfer to a home institution during the Fall, Winter or Spring quarters may apply as a special status student.
Any student who has already completed a bachelor's degree or is interested in seeking a degree from DU should NOT use this application.
If you already have a bachelor's degree, visit our DU Graduate Degree Programs site to learn more about the Special Status Graduate Program.
If you are interested in taking courses over the summer, please register as a visiting student through our Summer@DU program with the Office of the Registrar.
An official transcript from the last institution attended must be submitted by any student who has attended or is currently attending college. In some cases, high school transcripts may be required.
Under Special Student Status, a person may attend DU for a maximum of three quarters.
In order to continue coursework beyond three quarters, a student must apply (submitting all required documents and transcripts) as an undergraduate degree candidate and be admitted by the Admission Committee. Admission as an Undergraduate Special Status Student does not constitute admission to any regular undergraduate degree program.
Does coursework count towards a DU degree?
Coursework completed while attending as a Special Status Student is not automatically applicable to a degree at the University of Denver. Such coursework may be deemed credit-worthy only upon acceptance into an undergraduate degree program at DU. A student’s academic record at the University will be evaluated each quarter to determine if it is satisfactory and if the student is eligible to continue his/her studies.
International students must contact International Student Admission.
Admission is based on review of the following materials:
- Completed Special Status Student Application
- Official transcript from the most recent institution attended
- $65 nonrefundable application fee - mail a check (made out to University of Denver).
