Tuition & Types of Aid
See if you qualify for financial aid.
Types of Aid
The Office of Financial Aid will work closely with you to help you identify and secure every form of aid for which you are eligible.
Your financial aid package may contain a combination of some of the following types of aid in order to help you meet the cost of attendance:
You may only receive financial aid in an amount up to (and not in excess of) your cost of attendance.
Cost of Attendance
Your cost of attendance (also called a student budget) is made up of both direct costs and indirect costs:
- Direct costs: Direct costs include fixed expenses such as tuition and student fees that are charged by DU and appear on your student bill.
- Indirect costs: Books, personal expenses and transportation fees make up some of the indirect costs which won't show up in your quarterly DU bill, but are nonetheless part of your overall cost of attendance.

A student's cost of attendance can be increased on a case-by-case basis for additional costs--including the cost of tuition for a credit overload, additional room charges, DU health insurance, etc.--by completing a Budget Adjustment Form (available in July 2012).
* Aid for the summer term is limited. Your eligibility for such aid will not be evaluated until the spring term prior to summer enrollment.
** A 1% origination fee is taken out at disbursement of Federal Direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans. The $19 listed above is the average fee for undergraduate students who borrow these loans. Actual fees will depend on the amount borrowed.
