As the Director of Facilities Management and Planning for the University of Denver, I am responsible for the leadership, management and implementation of all operating functions of the department. Responsibilities include planning, personnel management and budget oversight of the physical plant, including a $25-million annual operating budget and a nearly $12.8-million annual Capital Renovation/Replacement budget. Overall, the department is responsible for building maintenance, custodial, ground, including Arboretum's facilities operations, utility management, energy conservation, sustainability coordination, construction management and real property acquisition and management.
Since coming to the University as Director in 1992, I have overseen nearly $850 million in new or renovated construction, including multi-million-dollar landscaping and planting projects. Additionally, I have provided oversight on $16-plus million in energy conservation and retro-commissioning projects to reduce the GHG footprint on campus.
Prior to coming to DU, I was Public Works Director for the City of Aurora, Colorado, working my way into that position from Streets & Traffic Operations Chief. Before that, I worked in the private sector as a construction project manager and field engineer.
