BA Art
The BA (bachelor of arts) is a liberal arts degree program for students with multiple interests. Course work in the major is limited to 60 hours and either a double major or a minor is required. A minimum of 30 hours in the major must be taken on campus at DU..
The BA Art degree is the preferred degree for art students with multiple interests. Any student admitted to D.U. may be a BA Art major without submitting a portfolio. Students may submit a portfolio during the admissions process to be considered for scholarships offered by SAAH, determined by the strength of the work submitted.
The 60 credits in art that go toward the BA art degree:
Major Course Requirements
16 credits in Art Foundations: 2D Approaches, 3D Approaches, Drawing, and Concepts.
12 credits in Art History: Survey I, Survey II, plus one Non-Western Art History class.
32 credits in Studio Art: Eight Studio Art classes with at least two classes at the 3000 level
60 total hours of credit to complete the degree
Credit earned with less than a “C-” grade cannot be applied toward fulfillment of a major or minor. Of the 183 credits required for the BA degree, a minimum of 75 credit hours must be upper division (2000-3000 level).
Minor or Double Major Requirements
The BA student must complete either a minor or a second major.
University Requirements
The University Undergraduate Requirements extend through all four years of study at the University of Denver. All students, regardless of major area of study, share a common experience by taking courses in both Foundations and the Core Curriculum.
