Julie Chiron joined the University of Denver in November 2013. She is the chief communications officer for the division of University Advancement and oversees the departments of development communications, alumni communications, and donor relations & stewardship.
Chiron is an award-winning senior communications leader with more than 20 years of marketing and communications experience, including 11 years in university advancement communications and three comprehensive campaigns at the University of Chicago, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Colorado Foundation. She also has served as a campaign communications consultant for Northwestern University.
Prior to her career in higher education, Chiron worked in San Francisco as a digital marketer and journalist. She founded HotWired, WIRED magazine's online division, and directed the development of an intranet for AT&T's finance division. As an entrepreneur, she founded a company that developed online services pairing ecommerce with social networking for companies including Kenwood, Sega, and Cooking.com.
Chiron holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in journalism and magazine publishing from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism. She has been a faculty member and lecturer for CASE, UC Berkeley Extension, and the San Francisco State University College of Extended Learning. She grew up in Boulder, Colorado.
