Peggy Maki

On June 12, 2008, Peggy Maki—a leader in the area of graduate-level program assessment—led the DU workshop to help educators articulate and understand core learning outcomes.

The workshop—"Anchoring Assessment in Intellectual Curiosity about Graduate, Professional, and Doctoral Students' Chronological Learning"—helped assessment professionals explore how to integrate students into a learning path that prepares them to be experts in their fields.

Part One

In part one of this three-part video presentation, Peggy Maki, PhD—a noted expert and author in the field of graduate assessment—explained why we need to be concerned with assessment in our graduate, doctoral and professional programs. She also discussed what we should assess and how we can begin to assess our programs.

Part Two

In part two of this three-part video presentation, Dr. Peggy Maki discussed graduate, doctoral and professional program assessment. Some of the topics covered include the differences among outcomes, goals and objectives; the difference between assessing for courses and assessing for programs; and mapping assessment instruments to learning goals.

Part Three

In the final video of her presentation, Dr. Peggy Maki introduced methods to use in assessing our graduate, doctoral and professional programs. In addition, she discussed different assessment instruments and some examples of trends across the country in the assessment of graduate-level programs.
