About Blackboard Community Organizations

Blackboard 6 Update

The Blackboard Community tab will cease to exist beginning Fall 2003 when we upgrade to the Blackboard 6 Learning System.  Existing Blackboard communities will be moved to Blackboard 6 by request only.  Blackboard Communities will be listed within their own category within the Blackboard 6 course catalog.

We can still create new Blackboard communities, however, we encourage faculty, staff, and students to review other DU community options, such as the DU Portfolio Community and the Groups function in webCentral.

What is a Blackboard Community?

A Blackboard community is an online meeting place for like-minded individuals.  Blackboard organizations are listed on the Community tab when you log in to Blackboard.  Blackboard communities have the same features as Blackboard academic classes such as:

  • Discussion Boards
  • Chat Rooms
  • Mailing Lists
  • Announcements

Who can have a Blackboard Community?

Blackboard organizations are available for those who are officially part of the DU community.  This might include:

  • Student organizations recognized by the Office of Student Programs
  • Faculty and/or staff organizations
  • Departmental organizations
