Uyen Vu loves people. As a 2nd grader, she already nurtures those around her and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Through the Bridge Project, Uyen has made invaluable relationships with her peers and caring adults who will help guide her along her way.
Uyen’s favorite part of Bridge is tutoring with her tutor Susan Knight. Uyen and Susan meet for one hour per week to work on building academic skills through homework, educational games, and other skill building activities. However, the most important part is the positive relationship that they have built over the last three years.
As an eight year old, Uyen knows the value of a positive relationship. When Uyen grows up, she hopes to be a firefighter so that she can help people.
Susan Knight
Susan Knight is a tutor at the Columbine Bridge Project. Susan has been working with her student for three years and takes a lot of pleasure in meeting Uyen on Tuesdays. Read more about Susan’s story and how the Bridge Project has given Susan the opportunity to change the life of a child.
Susan spends her days managing a law firm. However, every Tuesday, she takes the afternoon to tutor at the Columbine Bridge Project. Three years ago, Susan began tutoring with a Kindergarten student named Uyen. Since then, Susan and Uyen have built a strong relationship. Susan feels that by helping Uyen learn to read, she is making a difference in the Bridge community.
Susan and Uyen have become an illustration of the power of tutoring at the Bridge Project. Susan’s favorite part about being a tutor is working and reading with Uyen, and because they both share a love or reading and learning, they are the perfect match.
As their tutoring continues, Susan will be able to watch Uyen grow as a student and an individual. Susan’s dedication to Uyen demonstrates the power that one individual can have in the life of a child.
