Youth Empowerment

The Bridge Project received federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health in September 2006 to open a new youth center for middle and hihg school youth. The center is located in the South Lincoln site and serves youth from all three Bridge locations. Program activites began February 2007 und there newly-named Zone (Zones of Opportunity and New Experiences). Programs at the ZONE include:

  • Academic enrichment actiivites including tutoring, after-school homework help, and teacher and parent involvement in reading and other academic tasks.
  • Personal development and wellness interventions that involve youth and parents in the Healthy Lifestyles curriculum and in youth-adult mentoing.
  • Cultural enrichment activities including community service projects and expansion of the Bridge Project's Culture Club program to middle and high school youth.
  • Career development activites that expose youth to technology training, outdoor leadership, and a curriculum aimed at helping high school youth apply for college and employment.
