The University of Denver partnered with Rocky Mountain PBS to offer the 2008-09 Bridges to the Future events to a wider audience. The one-hour specials focused on the theme, "A Nation Still at Risk: The Future of Education."

Speaker challenges educators to trust and embrace the heart

Parker Palmer told educators not to factor out the heart when it comes to teaching.The author, educator and activist spoke to a crowd of nearly 1,400 people at the Ritchie Center Sept. 23 as part of the University's Bridges to the Future lecture series. This year’s theme is "A Nation Still at Risk: The Future of Education."

U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs addresses peace in Africa

For the U.S., the key to mitigating conflict in Africa is "transformational diplomacy," said Jendayi Frazer, assistant secretary of state for African affairs, during her Feb. 16 Bridges to the Future lecture.

DENVER—The 2006—07 University of Denver Bridges to the Future program is dedicated to "The Pursuit of Peace"—a concept that has both enticed and eluded global society. For millennia, wars have been fought over land, religion, people and politics. Movements for peace surface sporadically, some as response to the latest conflict, others in an effort to chart a new course for human interaction.

Bridges panel explores dilemmas of death and dying

With respirators, feeding tubes and advancements in drug treatments, dying in America can be prolonged, expensive, confusing and complicated.

To address these challenges, Bridges to the Future hosted "Ethical Dilemmas and End of Life Decisions: Extending Life, Accepting Death" on Feb. 21 at the Newman Center.

The final Bridges to the Future event for the fall quarter is Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts and will feature Jeffrey Rosen, legal affairs editor at The New Republic. The title of Rosen's address is "The Naked Crowd: How to Protect Security and Privacy in the Age of Terror."

Bridges to the Future at DU returns with a focus on Science, Technology and Values

DENVER—Science, Technology and Values has been selected as the overall theme for Bridges to the Future 2005—2006, now in its fourth year, at the University of Denver. Each quarter a different sub-theme will be examined through lectures, forums and discussion groups that are open to the community. Privacy and security issues is the sub-theme for the fall quarter and will kick off programming in September.
