An Author in the Classroom

Faculty at University College bring real-world success into the classroom.

Shari Caudron, who teaches writing at the college, has made a splash with her book, Who Are You People? A Personal Journey Into the Heart of Fanatical Passion in America. It explores the lives of people who develop obsessive passions for things like Barbie dolls or ice fishing.

The book garnered a segment on National Public Radio and a listing as a must-read in Entertainment Weekly. The Rocky Mountain News named it one of its Best Books of 2006.

Caudron, who's taught several courses at the college over the past few years, is heading up the course "Writing the Journey Narrative" in spring 2008.

"She knows the business and knows what publishers are looking for," says Kathryn Mayer, a master’s student from Littleton, Colo., currently in Caudron's class. "It’s inspiring for her students."

"Shari provides thorough and insightful feedback that unlocks the student's fullest potential," says Don Auman, a master’s student from Englewood, Colo. "I have come away from each class and each writing assignment feeling like I have learned something remarkable."
