Undergraduate Map to Success

Coursework
  • Choose a Major
    • Visit the Career Center and meet with a Counselor to discuss your options
    • Academic Advising
    • Meet with the Departmental Adviser of the major you are interested in
  • Planning Courses
  • Improve Yourself as a Student
    • Make an appointment to take the Myer Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) at the Career Center to define your personality and communication style
    • Ask you Academic Advisers how you can imporove your study habits and test taking skills
  • Know Your Curriculum
    • Make sure you know the University Core Requirements
    • Meet with you Department Advisers to know your Major/Minor Requirements
    • Other Degree Requirements
    • Make sure you meet the GPA Requirements for your major and minor
Transfer Credit
  • Transfer Students
    • Send in transcripts from school(s) attended to the Office of the Registar
    • Fill out intial evaluation given by the Admissions Office
    • Make sure to finish further evaluations by Academic Departments if necessary
  • Continuing Students
    • Get approval before taking courses at another university
    • After courses are completed, send transcript(s) to the Office of the Registar
    • No more than 90 transfer credits can be taken
    • No courses can be taken at a two year school
    • Must complete the last 45 credits at DU
    • Cannot take courses at DU and another school at the same time
  • Incoming Students
    • Advance Placement, IB, or College Credit can be transfered
    • Maximum of 45 hours can be taken
Internships:
  • Internships can be done fo credit, pay, both, or neither
  • Juniors and Seniors can receive credit (maximum 10 hours towards degree)
  • Meet with the Internship Counselor at the Career Center or the Internship Director in your Academic Department

Graduate School
  • Visit the Career Center and meet with your counselor to discuss your options
  • Take your major courses/classes by your sophomore year
  • Have Letters of Recommendations ready to send out
  • If necessary take appropriate exams (GRE, LSAT, GMAT, etc.)
Career Exploration
  • Visit the Career Center
  • Intern in areas that you are interested in
  • Meet with Major Adviser for potential career fields your can explore
  • Have Letters of Recommendations ready to send out
  • Participate in Mock Interviews at the Career Center
  • Resume & Coverletter
