Service Opportunities

DUSC Logo

DU Service and Change (DUSC) is a student organization engaging the DU community through diverse opportunities that facilitate positive change for the greater public good. DUSC has four separate committees leading different projects:

  1. Project Connect—Project Connect organizes donation drives and fundraisers throughout each quarter to promote awareness and support a specific cause.
  2. Project Action—This is a standing weekly/bi-weekly volunteer opportunity in the community.
  3. Project Depth—These long-term, committed service projects allow DU students to learn about and discuss public issues while exploring their root causes and examining solutions.
  4. Project Volunteer—These one-day service events are held each quarter and give University of Denver students, faculty, and staff the chance to engage in a variety of volunteer activities throughout the Denver community.

Project Connect is working on local fundraisers for organizations such as the Bridge Project, Food Bank of the Rockies and many others! The project will be working with Ben & Jerry's, Nova, Illegal Pete's and other local restaurants. Look for flyers and more information to help out or attend.

If you're interested in learning more about Project Connect or getting involved, please email Ashley Keeler at ashley.keeler20@gmail.com.

Project Action is very excited to launch a new tutoring program with Rocky Mountain Preparatory School, a new charter school in Denver. This is a great opportunity if you are interested in tutoring but can't make a long-term commitment.

To start tutoring you must complete a background check and a training session with a site coordinator. Once you have completed both, you can sign up for tutoring dates at your convenience.

Email Laura Mandler at lemandler10@gmail.com for more information or if you are interested in getting started!

For more information about the school, visit the Rocky Mountain Prep website.

Project Action is scheduled to partner with the city of Lakewood's RISE (Recreation and Inclusion Services for Everyone) Program next quarter by volunteering at multiple fun, recreational activities with people with disabilities! Such activities include volunteering at monthly themed dances, helping with youth sports, attending community outings and so much more! Look out for more details to come and possibly a guest speaker. If this sounds interesting to you and you'd like to hear more about it, email Neda Kikha at neda.kikhia@gmail.com.

Note: You must complete a brief application and a background check, since we'll be working with the city of Lakewood. The faster you get these in, the faster you can volunteer! For these forms contact Neda Kikhia at neda.kikhia@gmail.com with "RISE Volunteer Application" in the subject line.

Project Action also will be volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in the winter. Check back soon for confirmed dates.

If you would like immediate updates regarding habitat dates, please sign up for the project action email list by emailing Laura Mandler at lemandler10@gmail.com. Otherwise, dates will be added to the monthly newsletter once they have been confirmed.

Project Depth committee members have been tutoring children involved in the Bridge Project. The Bridge Project is a mentoring and tutoring program dedicated to helping students ages pre-K-high school from low-income families.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Bridge Project, please email Mallie at mallie.miles@gmail.com for more information and to get started!

Project Volunteer is proud to announce its involvement in the Center for Multicultural Excellence Diversity Summit, May 9-10, 2013. The summit will include a day of service on May 11. If you would like to be involved in planning this large-scale service event, contact Dahisy Cano at d.cano@du.edu.
