The Engaged Community Initiative (ECI) is a member of Metro Organizations for People (MOP). We are the first Local Organizing Committee at the University of Denver, MOP's first LOC at a University. ECI uses MOP's community organizing model to sustainably address issues on the DU campus. ECI has been working to develop strong relationships with members of the DU community by delivering campus wide community organizing workshops, having intentional one-to-one conversation around community values and concerns, and training our committee members in community organizing. After starting our committee in January of 2009 we currently have a committee of 15 student leaders who are trained in and are implementing community organizing. Our vision with ECI is that through community organizing students will view themselves, and act publicly, as powerful agents of change, equipped with the tools to do so. Our committee has already begun to lead in addressing DU community based issues with the goal of creating a stronger, more connected and more inclusive DU.
