The Young Scholars Program, a college preparatory program, was founded and created in 1998 in response to the need to increase the academic achievement of underrepresented students and to prepare them for eligibility and admission to competitive universities and colleges. Through this program, the Foundation selects high-achieving youth with financial need and provides them throughout high school with individualized educational opportunities and support that will enable them to develop their talents and abilities. The Foundation awards approximately 70 of these scholarships each year. The Young Scholars Program is one of the most individualized scholarships offered in the United States. To be eligible for this program, applicants must be in the 7th grade when they apply. The only exception is made for those sixth graders who will skip the 7th grade.
