Standards
This curriculum fills the following Colorado educational standards for History:
History Standard 1
Students understand the chronological organization of history and know how to organize events and people into major eras to identify and explain historical relationships
- Use of a timeline that includes dates relevant to the Jews in Colorado as well as the dates that impacted society as a whole
- Becoming familiar with the names and roles of some members of the Jewish community
History Standard 2
Students know how to use the processes and resources of historical inquiry
- Distinguishing between primary and secondary sources
- Formulating historical questions based on primary and secondary sources
- Gathering information from multiple sources
- Interpreting the data in historical maps, photographs, art works, and other artifacts; examining data for point of view, historical context, bias, distortion or propaganda
History Standard 3
Students understand that societies are diverse and have changed over time.
- Describing and giving examples of basic elements of Jewish culture and social organizations
- Describing how social roles and the characteristics of social organization have both changed and endured in Colorado throughout its history.
The Curriculum Guide text includes information relating to: impact of Jewish pioneers on development and growth of specific Colorado communities; similarities and differences among early pioneers, regardless of country of origin; creation and development of health institutions on the population of Colorado and the United States; creation and development of charity organizations and development of charity organizations by members of the Jewish community for the benefit of the community at large.
