The Holocaust Awareness Institute to house the Fred Marcus Memorial Holocaust Lecture

The 5th Annual Fred Marcus Memorial Holocaust Lecture, newly under the auspices of the Holocaust Awareness Institute at the University of Denvers Center for Judaic Studies, will take place on March 18, 2007 at 4:00pm at the University of Denvers Driscoll Ballroom. Robert Bielsky, whose father and two uncles saved 1200 Jews in the forests of Poland during World War II, will tell an absorbing and little known story of resistance and survival.

When Mr.. Bielsky is not traveling the world speaking of his familys exploits which saved so many lives during the Holocaust, he is the President of Manhattan Commercial Realty Corp. He also serves as the President of the Holocaust Memorial Committee, and is a Board of Director of the Associates Division of the Museum of Jewish Heritage a living memorial to the Holocaust.

Created as a memorial to Fred Marcus by his wife, Audrey Friedman Marcus, and hosted initially by Temple Sinai, the Fred Marcus Memorial Lecture became a program of the Holocaust Awareness Institute in the summer of 2006. As a boy of 15, Fred and his father escaped Nazi Germany in 1939 to the Shanghai Ghetto, where they spent the remainder of the war. The annual Marcus Lecture honors Freds dedication to teaching about the Holocaust to school classes, synagogue and church groups. After a longtime career in the Bay Area as a respected Jewish educator, Fred moved to Denver in 1981, where he became a popular teacher, impacting numerous adults and children as well as many local Jewish educational organizations.

Due to the ongoing popularity of the lecture, reservations are required by March 1, 2007. Walk in registrations will not be accepted. The cost of the event is $12.00 a person which includes the lecture and a wine and cheese reception. Students ages 12-18 are invited to attend free of charge, but must also have reservations. This low cost event is made possible through the generosity of the 100 annual event co-sponsors. Please click here to see the list of co-sponsors.

To make your reservation please send a check, along with the names of those who will be attending with you (and ages for any students) made out to the Holocaust Awareness Institute at:
