The Sexual Assault Survivor Advocate (SASA) Network

The DU Sexual Assault Survivor Advocate Network (The SASA Network) exists to assist DU students who have been sexually assaulted on or off campus; and staff, faculty, or visitors who have been sexually assaulted on campus. Trained Victim Advocates provide emotional support and referral information for victims/survivors of sexual assault.   The SASA Network Victim Advocates have all received training on supporting LGBTIQ survivors of sexual assault and serve people of all gender identities.

Trained advocates will assist all survivors, and any family or friends to cope with the physical, psychological, judicial and/or legal aftermath resulting from a sexual assault. Although the advocates will undergo an intense 30 hour training program, they are not trained or certified counselors and their role is to listen to the victim/survivor and to explain options rather than offer crisis counseling. Please contact the DU Health and Counseling Center at 303-871-2205 for counseling information.

To contact the Network during the academic year, call 303-871-3456 and leave a message. An advocate will then call you back. On call hours for the fall 2007 quarter are Monday to Sunday 8am to 8pm.

If you would like to apply to become an advocate, please visit http://www.du.edu/studentlife/Sexual_Assault/SASA.htm for information on training dates, how to apply, and deadlines.

The Gender Violence Resource Center

The Center has a strong commitment to inclusiveness and the provision of diverse resources. Free copying is available for book chapters and articles and the DVDs are available for rent. The GVRC is still in production as of August 2007, so please contact Lisa Ingarfield (lingarfi@du.edu) for information on the availability of resources for the fall 2007 quarter. If you have resources you would like to donate to this initiative then please also contact Lisa Ingarfield.
