Disability Access and Accommodations

Please remember that this year all persons, including those with a disability, must have a ticket to attend Undergraduate Commencement. (Tickets are not required for the graduate and Sturm College of Law ceremonies.)

Parking for guests with disabilities

Handicapped-accessible parking will be located in Lot 311 directly north of the Ritchie Center and in Lot T west of the Ritchie Center. Entrances to both lots are located directly off of Buchtel Boulevard. State-issued disabled person’s placards or license plates will be required for parking in these areas.

For those who can’t walk long distances from other parking areas, drop-off points will be available in the circle drive north of the Ritchie Center off of Buchtel Boulevard and on East Asbury Street south of the Gates Fieldhouse (see campus map [PDF]). Additionally, there will be handicapped-accessible shuttles providing transport from Lot 108 to the Ritchie Center.

See Parking for more information.

Accessible seating

Seating for persons using wheelchairs or unable to climb steps will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommended arriving as early as possible. Because of limited seating, we can provide space for only one companion in the accessible aisles. Other companions may sit nearby.

Doors to Magness Arena will open an hour and a half before each ceremony begins—at 3:30 p.m on Friday, June 6, and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, and Saturday, June 7.

Sign language, assistive listening devices and other accommodations

Sign language interpreters will be located in Sections 3-4 in Magness Arena. Seating in these sections is reserved for persons who are deaf, plus up to two companions for each hearing-impaired person.

Assistive listening devices (ALDs) will be available at the table in the main lobby of Magness Arena. Please ask an usher for directions to the ADA assistance table.

People who need large-print copies of the program may request them from any usher at the ceremony.

Wheelchair rental

The following companies in the Denver area rent wheelchairs by the day and week. All of these companies advise that individuals call well ahead of time to reserve a chair.

Persons or families needing wheelchairs are responsible for picking up and paying for the equipment and bringing it back to the rental companies. The University of Denver does not take responsibility for the quality of products or services offered by any of these companies. This list is updated yearly.
