Commencement

FAQ

When are DU's next Commencement ceremonies?
  • Spring 2015 Graduate Commencement—Friday, June 5
  • Spring 2015 Undergraduate Commencement—Saturday, June 6
  • Summer 2015 Commencement—Friday, August 14
Do we need tickets to attend the ceremony?

The only ceremony that requires tickets is the Spring Undergraduate Ceremony. These tickets are distributed to graduating students. Detailed information about tickets will be available in spring 2015.

No tickets are required for the Spring Graduate and Summer Commencement ceremonies. Attendees are seated on a first-come, first-served basis.

How long is Commencement?

Spring Commencement ceremonies are approximately 2 hours long. Summer Commencement is roughly an hour and 45 minutes long.

Can we videotape the ceremony or take photographs?

While we ask you not to photograph or videotape the ceremony from the aisles, we do offer each graduate the opportunity to order professionally photographed Commencement pictures and a copy of a video recording of the ceremony. Learn more at our photos and video page.

Video of the ceremony will be posted on the University of Denver's Commencement YouTube playlist a few days after the ceremony.

When can we take pictures with the graduate?

Because DU collects caps and gowns from each graduate immediately after the ceremony, please plan to take any pictures with graduates in their academic regalia before Commencement.

Is there a reception after Commencement?

Yes. We hold University-wide receptions immediately after each Commencement ceremony.
