FAQ

How do we get to Commencement?

See our Parking & Directions page for detailed information on how to get here.

When are DU's next Commencement ceremonies?
  • spring 2013 Sturm College of Law Commencement—10 a.m. Saturday, May 18
  • spring 2013 graduate Commencement—4:30 p.m. Friday, June 7
  • spring 2013 undergraduate Commencement—9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8
  • summer 2013 Commencement—Friday, Aug. 16
Do we need tickets to attend?

We require and provide tickets only for the undergraduate ceremony. We distribute five guest tickets to each undergraduate Commencement candidate when they arrive to pick up their caps and gowns.

For all other ceremonies, tickets are not required.

Please check out our tickets and seating page for details about ticket distribution.

What time does the arena open for the ceremony?

The Arena will open one hour before each ceremony begins. All seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

How long is Commencement?

Each Commencement ceremony runs approximately two hours long.

Can we videotape the ceremony or take photographs?

While we ask you not to photograph or videotape the ceremony from the aisles, we do offer each graduate the opportunity to order professionally photographed Commencement pictures and a copy of a video recording of the ceremony. Learn more at our photos and video page.

When can we take pictures with the graduate?

Because DU collects caps and gowns from each graduate immediately after the ceremony, please plan to take any pictures with graduates in their academic regalia before Commencement.

Is there a reception after Commencement?

Yes. We'll hold a University-wide reception immediately after each Commencement ceremony. See our reception and events page as Commencement nears for details.
