A Program Like No Other
When you pursue studies in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Denver, you're choosing a unique program that prepares you to participate in and direct the future of technological and scientific change.
Our focus is on innovation, and we have developed an education program that allows our students to develop the skills to be at the forefront of making the discoveries and creating the new technologies that will meet the needs and opportunities of global society.
The distinctive features of our program include:
- Small class and lab sizes
- Small classes provide greater opportunity for interaction between faculty and students, allowing students to individualize their course of study.
- Undergraduate research experience
- Through Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URAs) students work with faculty and graduate research teams – as research assistants, not just as lab aids. Students have the opportunity to help write journal articles, present research results at professional meetings, and achieve listing as co-inventors on patents.
- Interdisciplinary programs
- The Department of Computer Science has developed creative interdisciplinary programs with other schools and departments on campus. With courses from the Division of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, CS students can study the computational aspects of art and music. Electronic arts and game development are explored in conjunction with the art and digital media studies programs, and electronic commerce is studied in cooperation with the business school. Chemistry and biology are major components in the program of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics degree.
- Internship opportunities
- Computer Science students can participate in our internship program, providing them a head start on their careers. Besides gaining workplace experience, students are able to use their earnings to reduce the cost of their education.
- Global perspective
- The University of Denver’s Cherrington Global Scholars program offers eligible juniors and seniors the option of spending one quarter abroad – all for the normal costs of DU tuition and room and board. Students choose from more than 40 overseas university partners, or over 100 additional sites through the International Student Exchange Program.
- Teamwork & communication focus
- Students are encouraged to join the Computer Science Club where, in addition to social activities, they can get involved in tutoring, industry contacts and special projects, or become a member of the student branch of the Association for Computing Machinery.
