Why is WorldQuest important? The world is now more interconnected than at any other time in history. WorldQuest helps students become globally competetive by teaching the value of current events and world affairs. And students who actively engage international studies have a great chance to be responsible global citizens.
Peace and prosperity depend on the ability and willingness of people to think and work together. A more interconnected world demands that we learn about each other in order to become effective leaders in our ever-changing world. Students who play WorldQuest this fall can show how they are invested in global issues and education.
How do I play the game? High school teams consist of 4 to 6 players in grades 9-12 (teams can be a mix of students from a variety of grades). Teams compete by answering rounds of questions projected by PowerPoint onto a screen. When the team reads the questions, they decide the answer as a group and write it down. Get the most correct answers and you win!
The questions this year will reflect some of the key categories tested during the 2010 National WorldQuest competition in Washington D.C.: Pandemics, Genocide, International Migration Trends, Food Production and Consumption, World Music, and World Cup Soccer (For resources on these categories visit WorldQuest-Resources). A full competition is 60 questions; 6 rounds of 10 questions each.
Where? On the campus of the University of Denver.
When? Thursday, November 19, 2009 with dinner and registration from 5:30-6:30 pm, and the game from 6:30-8:30 pm.
Is there a registration fee? Registration for school teams is $50. Registration pays for one team (of 4-6 members) and one adult chaperone. Other adults can attend to watch. The registration fee includes dinner at 5:30 pm. SPACES ARE LIMITED; REGISTER YOUR TEAM TODAY!
How can I register? Contact Karen Magner at the Institute of International Education at 303.792.0780, or go to www.rockymountainiie.org to fill out the registration form. REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH AT NOON.

Why Play Academic WorldQuest:
the Top 10 Reasons
# 1. It’s fun to see if you know more than your peers from other schools! We’ll bet you do, but we can’t prove it until we see you in action.
# 2. You may get to see the Lincoln Memorial. If you win, you earn the chance to represent Denver at the National WorldQuest tournament in Washington DC this Spring.
# 3. WorldQuest is a good way to learn about the rest of the world and the cultures that drive many of the global events. Without knowledge, you have no power.
# 4. You can be sure the rest of the world knows about the United States and where we are. They know where Colorado is. Do you know where Turkey is? Really?
# 5. It’s something to put on your college applications and resume to balance out your Varsity Swimming letter, Debate Club participation, president of DECA and the marathon Family Guy festival you stayed up all night watching last week!
# 6. It can help you prepare for the World Affairs Challenge in the spring. Do WorldQuest, and you have a leg up on the other teams. See the CTIR website for more info: www.worldaffairschallenge.org
# 7. Secretly…. you live for trivia contests. I mean really… who doesn’t?
# 8. This is finally a chance to beat your older brother at something.
# 9. The food will be great. We feed you a dinner before the tournament. Either pizza or some fun international fare, but you will be answering the questions on a full stomach!
# 10. It is time we all really start to understand our role as a Global Citizen. There is no going back.
