THE DISCOVERY POSTER

One of the most important aspects of any research is to share the findings with others! What good is a possible solution to ending African Trypanosomiasis* if no one even knows what it is but you? The Discovery Poster is totally separate from your Formal Presentation. It is another way to share your months of hard work with your peers, expanding their knowledge and sharing your ideas!

Purpose

  • The purpose of the poster is to clearly and concisely present your project, or one aspect or your project, to your peers and the judges.

Information to Include

  • A title that grabs the attention of a passer-by and makes them want to stop and read more.
  • A thesis or some form of informative statement that is clearly identified and tells the general idea of your poster.
  • The most relevant and important information pertaining to your topic, presented in an organized manner.
  • Your own ideas and unique perspectives!
  • Your ideas for solutions to improve the situation.

Format

  • Posters should be able to stand on a table and will not be part of your Formal Presentation (a tri-fold poster board may be easiest, but you are not limited to this medium).
  • Try not to include additions to the poster that can easily fall off or become lost.

Prizes

  • Prizes for this will be awarded separately!
  • Judges will focus more on CONTENT than just APPEARANCE, although you should be as creative as possible.

*African Trypanosomiasis , know as “the sleeping sickness”, is transmitted by the tsetse fly and can result in sleep disturbance, coma, or even death.  It is primarily in the sub-Saharan African countries and affects over 300,000 people.  Most drugs are costly and dangerous or have lost their effectiveness.
