Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
What is the Employee Assistance Program?
The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential resource for University of Denver faculty, administrators, and staff. The University recognizes that personal stress affects not only an individual's life, but also the quality of an individual's work. The goal of the Employee Assistance Program is to minimize the effects of personal stress on both a person's life and his or her work.
What Services are Provided?
Your benefit includes up to five counseling sessions per year. To manage personal problems that are impacting job performance, your counselor will help you understand the cause of your stress and find ways to handle its impact. A referral may be made to other programs in the community to meet your needs. The Employee Assistance Program can help you with:
- Personal relationships
- Family/Children concerns
- Grief and Loss
- Career Direction
- Financial Pressures
- Dealing with difficult employees or supervisors
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse
- Job Stress
- Separation or Divorce
- Management Issues
Employee Assistance Program services include groups, education, consultation, conflict resolution, and information to assist you in achieving your personal and professional goals. Departments may contact the EAP to assist in management issues such as team building, reorganization, and long-range planning. Ongoing projects may also be arranged on a fee-for-service basis.

For emergency consultation after hours or on weekends or holidays, call Campus Safety at 303-871-3000 and ask them to page the Counselor-On-Call.
Who is Eligible to Use the Employee Assistance Program?
All appointed faculty, administrators, and staff, (with dependent family members as needed).
When Should I Use the Employee Assistance Program?
All of us are subject to stress. Some stress can be useful and motivate us. Excessive stress can be destructive. Such stress can result in a wide range of difficulties, including medical problems, preoccupation, insomnia, depression, or alcohol and drug abuse. Relationships often suffer as adverse stress levels result in troublesome behavior. The quality of work may also be reduced when stress affects concentration, judgment, and morale. When a job performance problem occurs, your supervisor may encourage you to use the Employee Assistance Program. Participation in the program is voluntary and separate from any standard disciplinary procedures enacted by an employer. If you have any questions about the EAP, it is always a good idea to check it out.
How Much Will it Cost?
Five counseling/consultation sessions per year are provided free of charge by the Employee Assistance Program to all appointed faculty, administrators, and staff, (with dependent family members as needed). Fees and expenses may result from a referral to another University program or community resource. Your insurance plan may defray some such costs.
Is the Program Confidential?
YES! Your contact with the Employee Assistance Program is strictly
confidential. Records never become part of your personnel file. No
information about you will be released to anyone without your written consent
(with some exceptions such as danger to self or others).
