Racial Minorities
Our counselors are dedicated to providing culturally-affirmative therapy by honoring and seeking to understand your cultural history and values. People commonly come to counseling when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or are having difficulties in relationships; persons-of-color and clients with multiple identities often experience additional cultural stressors, such as:
- feelings of invisibility or a lack of a cultural community on campus
- struggles to balance familial and cultural expectations in a predominantly White, Westernized university environment
- feelings of having a “foot in two worlds and a foot in neither”
- experiences of discrimination, harassment, or marginalization
- experiences of “microaggressions,” or subtler forms of prejudice and stereotyping
- the need to balance, honor, and integrate multiple identities
