Racial Minorities

Our counselors are dedicated to providing culturally-affirmative therapy by honoring and seeking to understand your cultural history and values. People commonly come to counseling when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or are having difficulties in relationships; persons-of-color and clients with multiple identities often experience additional cultural stressors, such as:

  • feelings of invisibility or a lack of a cultural community on campus
  • struggles to balance familial and cultural expectations in a predominantly White, Westernized university environment
  • feelings of having a “foot in two worlds and a foot in neither”
  • experiences of discrimination, harassment, or marginalization
  • experiences of “microaggressions,” or subtler forms of prejudice and stereotyping
  • the need to balance, honor, and integrate multiple identities
