Graduate Health Care Coverage Options
Option 1: Health & Counseling Fee (HCF) + Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
- Most HCC services are free with the HCF & the SHIP.
- Low cost co-pays for specialist visits at the HCC (usually $20).
- Preexisting conditions not excluded for care provided at the HCC.
Option 2: Health & Counseling Fee (HCF) + outside health insurance
- Many HCC services are discounted or covered after a $10 co-payment with the HCF and outside health insurance.
- If you carry outside health insurance and come to the HCC for services, you will be required to pay for any service not cover by the Health & Counseling Fee (HCF) at the time of your visit. You can then submit the claim to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Option 3: Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) only
- If you choose to carry the SHIP only, you will be insured through United Healthcare, the insurance company that partners with the DU.
- You must pay for all services at the HCC at the time of your visit.
- Each time you visit the HCC, you must submit the claim to United Healthcare for reimbursement.
- You must visit the HCC for referrals to a specialist. Primary care provided outside the HCC is always paid at the out-of-network rate of 60% after a $500 deductible.
Option 4: Outside health insurance only
- You must pay for all services at the HCC at the time of your visit.
- You must submit claims for reimbursement to your insurance company.
